On Saturday, 10 October, Dan Japana 2026, an event organised by the Embassy of Japan in Croatia, was held at the Sheraton Zagreb.

Katedra za japanologiju was honoured to take part with a booth where visitors could have their names written in Japanese and learn about our Japanology programme, and had the pleasure of meeting many people. KOI, our faculty’s Japanology student club founded this year, also ran a Fukuwarai (a traditional Japanese face puzzle) booth, which proved especially popular with children.

Around the venue, our students and teaching staff also joined visitors in enjoying a wide range of activities, including origami, Go, a Japanese-language class for children, yukata dressing and calligraphy, ikebana, the tea ceremony, a tuna sushi-making demonstration and tasting, and a workshop on benshi, the live narrators of Japanese silent cinema.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who visited, to the Embassy staff who organised the event, and to the student volunteers who supported our booths on the day!
